It's Black and Stack! Since we all know who Lewis is, let's start with Brian Stack. Brian is a comedy writer and performer who spent nearly 20 years creating some of the most memorable characters from Conan's television shows. Remember Kilty McBagpipes? Hannigan the Traveling Salesman? Artie Kendall the Ghost Crooner? Sure you do. The list goes on and on. Now you know him from Stephen Colbert's CBS show where Brian, among other things, is Cartoon Trump. Brian is considered one of the funniest comedy writers and performers in the history of television. OK, let's get back to Black. Lewis Black. Where to begin? How about where to see him? Lewis is playing the Borgata in Atlantic City March 10-11. March 16 he's at the Historic Elsinore Theater in Salem, Oregon. March 17 he's at the Mount Baker Theater in Bellingham, Washington. On March 18 he's at the Pantages Theater in Tacoma, Washington. For all of Lewis Black's tour dates please visit www.LewisBlack.com.

On today's show Lewis talks about how his background in theater shaped his approach to standup. He describes his childhood and schooling and where his rage comes from. We also examine his moral compass and why he feels obligated to speak truth to power no matter what the consequences.

Brian Stack talks about some of his happiest moments working with Conan and how he gets into character.

Receiving critical acclaim as a stand-up, actor and author, Lewis Black has performed for audiences throughout Europe, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. In 2012, he performed eight sell-out shows at Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway.

Back in Black is one of the most popular and longest-running segments on the Daily Show show for both the Jon Stewart era, and now The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Black has also taped four specials for the “Comedy Central Presents” series, co-created “Last Laugh with Lewis Black” and presided over “Lewis Black’s The Root of All Evil.” His popular appearances on Comedy Central helped to win him Best Male Stand-Up at the American Comedy Awards in 2001.

Increased exposure from “The Daily Show” generated a record deal with Stand Up! Records. His first CD, “The White Album,” was released in 2000 to critical acclaim. Black followed with eight more—six under the Comedy Central Records label. He has received five Grammy® nominations and two wins for his work. The first nomination came in 2006 for “Luther Burbank Performing Arts Center Blues,” the second in 2009 for “Anticipation.” In 2007 he won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album for “The Carnegie Hall Performance,” and again in 2011 for “Stark Raving Black.” His 2012 release, “In God We Rust” (Comedy Central Records) was also nominated for a Grammy.

Black has filmed two specials for HBO, including “Black On Broadway” and “Red, White and Screwed.” The latter was nominated for an Emmy® in 2007. He had a regular feature for two seasons on “Inside the NFL” (for which he earned a Sports Emmy) and in 2006, he was asked to participate in “Comic Relief.”

In 2009 Lewis filmed his first feature length concert film, “Stark Raving Black,” at the Fillmore Theatre in Detroit. The film had a limited run in theaters across the U.S. and Canada in the summer of 2010. At the end of the theater run, premium movie channel EpixHD picked up the film for its channel, along with the accompanying documentary, “Basic Black.” Both are aired regularly and can be found in the EpixHD on-demand queue. In 2011, he produced his second full-length concert, “In God We Rust,” which also airs on EpixHD. In August 2013, Black recorded his ninth stand-up special “Old Yeller: Live At The Borgata.”

In 2015, Black joined the cast of Madoff (ABC mini series). Black portrays Ezra Merkin, who, after investing with Madoff and receiving great returns, brought many famous and well-to-do Jewish clients, including Elie Weisel and The Hadassah Organization, to Bernie’s fold.

Black has appeared on “Larry King Live,” “Piers Morgan Tonight,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Late Night with Conan O’ Brian” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” Black has also had numerous appearances on CNN and MSNBC and has occasionally done the weather with Al Roker.

In the midst of a rigorous touring schedule, regular TV appearances and movie roles, Black has written three best-selling books: “Nothing’s Sacred” (Simon and Schuster, 2005), “Me of Little Faith” (Riverhead Books, 2008) and “I’m Dreaming of a Black Christmas” (Riverhead Books, 2010). All garnered critical praise as well commercial success and spent numerous weeks on the New York Times best sellers list.

Black has penned more than 40 plays, many of which have been produced around the country. “The Deal,” a dark comedy about business, was made into a short film in 1998 and picked up by the Sundance Channel. In 2011, his play “One Slight Hitch” was produced at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and then again in 2012 at both the ACT Theatre in Seattle and The George Street Theatre in New Brunswick.

Among Brian Stack's most popular recurring characters:

James Sinclair St. Wallins, Audiencey Awards Fashion Correspondent.
Brian LaFontaine, Singer on "Basic Cable Name That Tune". Conan frequently expresses his contempt for this character, making comments such as "Hate that guy" or "Easily my least favorite person".
Voice of Minty the Candycane Singer, sings the theme song for "Minty the Candycane Who Briefly Fell On The Ground" (played by Brian McCann) every Christmas.
Joe Galliano, John Galliano's 'brother' who Conan interviews, generally in response to comments made by John Galliano. Joe tries to defend his brother while changing into ridiculous hats every time the camera switches back to Conan.
Wiki Bear, Stack provides the voice of 2014 recurring character "Wiki Bear", a teddy bear who has a vast knowledge of very disturbing facts.

GOP Strategist Mike Murphy, Comedy Writer, Kevin Kataoka, Professor Lisa Wade, Author Amy Sutherland, and Film Critic Michael Snyder.

GOP Strategist Mike Murphy ran Jeb Bush's political action committee, Right to Rise. He's also advised Republicans including John McCain, Rick Lazio, John Engler, Tommy Thompson, Spencer Abraham, Christie Whitman, Lamar Alexander, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Until January 2006, he was an adviser to Mitt Romney.

Kevin Kataoka is a writer and producer, known for America's Funniest Home Videos, MADtv and Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. He's also a comedian who's appeared on shows like Premium Blend.

Lisa Wade is author of American Hookup: The New Culture of Sex on Campus.

Rising above misinformation and moralizing, Lisa Wade offers the definitive account of the new sexual culture on campus.

American Hookup situates hookup culture within the history of sexuality, the evolution of higher education, and the unfinished feminist revolution. With new research, Wade maps out a punishing emotional landscape marked by unequal pleasures, competition for status, and sexual violence. She discovers that privileged students tend to enjoy it the most, and considers its effects on racial and sexual minorities, students who “opt out,” and those who participate ambivalently.

Accessible and open-minded, compassionate and brutally honest, American Hookup explains where we are and how we got here, asking not “How do we go back?” but “Where do we go from here?”

Amy Sutherland is the author of “Rescuing Penny Jane: One Shelter Volunteer, Countless Dogs, and the Quest to Find Them All Homes.”

Michael Snyder is our resident film critic, and hosts Culture Blast.

Also Henriette Mantel who, besides playing Alice on The Brady Bunch movies, is an accomplished author, comedy writer, and activist.

Then we are joined by Investigative Journalist Robin Urevich who reveals that Trump’s pick for Secretary of Labor Andrew Puzder is no friend to the worker. Robin’s work is a joint effort of Newsweek and Capital and Main. Her article uncovers an alarming number of reports of federal racial discrimination and sexual harassment claims filed against Puzder’s fast food company CKE and its franchisees, which, she writes, “read like stories from the 1940s or ’50s, before civil rights laws were ever enacted.”

David then simplifies the news coming out of Washington by urging listeners to visit www.5Calls.org. Calling is the most effective way to influence your representative. 5 Calls gives you contacts and scripts so calling is quick and easy. 5 Calls uses your location to give you your local representatives so your calls are more impactful.

Robin Urevich writes for Capital & Main an award-winning online publication that reports from California on the most pressing economic, environmental and social issues of our time. Our mission is to expose threats to the public interest and advance progressive ideas and policies in the nation’s most populous state and one of the world’s most influential centers of commerce, culture and technology.

Winner of the 2016 Online Journalist of the Year prize from the Southern California Journalism Awards, Capital & Main has had stories co-published in more than 30 media outlets, from The Atlantic, The Guardian and Fast Company to Huffington Post, Salon and BillMoyers.com.

Working with top writers, editors and visual artists, they cover income inequality and the decline of the American Dream; the enduring power of corporate interests and the influence of business Democrats; climate change and the uneven rise of the green economy; the polarized battle over public education; race, law enforcement and incarceration; and the epic demographic changes foreshadowing the U.S.’s coming shift to a majority-minority nation.

Capital & Main’s advisory board includes former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, author Barbara Ehrenreich and Vice President Joe Biden’s former chief economist Jared Bernstein. Board members include American Prospect executive editor Harold Meyerson, journalist Erin Aubry Kaplan and professor and author Manuel Pastor.

Host of Cum Town, one of the funniest and most outrageously informative podcasts on iTunes. Also Comedy Writer Mike Leech describes his journey working in the mailroom at The Late Show with David Letterman to getting hired writing on the show.

Today’s topics include:

Writing cue cards for SNL, Is Ashley Judd a better ally for women than Madonna?

Letterman, How political satire creates community, Is Trump America’s latest 9/11? How politicians actually do keep their promises, How our votes don’t count so we should be out there protesting, The truth about totalitarian leaders wanting to get peed and pooed on, Pizza-gate,

Should you punch a Nazi?  Alt-Right Founder Richard B. Spencer was punched in the head this weekend. Some liberals, including former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau, delighted in this act of violence which left a humiliated Spencer with a black eye. Is our side losing the moral high ground when we resort to savagery?

What kind of father is Donald Trump? If all three of his children go into his business does it suggest they are cripples who couldn’t be hired by anyone else? With Jared Kushner getting sworn in as a top adviser to Trump we ask if nepotism violates America’s core tenets of personal responsibility and fairness.

Is it OK to remain neutral during a moral crisis? Why it’s important to get the numbers right on who attended the inauguration and who attended Saturday’s march.

Howie Klein organized today's congressional boycott of Donald Trump's inauguration. He is founder and treasurer of Blue America Pac which raises millions for progressive candidates. He also writes the Down With Tyranny! blog.

On Inauguration Day we focus on eliminating the noise and keying in on who stands to benefit the most from Donald Trump's rise to power. We remind listeners that as an agent of chaos, Trump will distract us while our treasury is looted and our planet is poisoned by incompetent errand boys working for the richest one percent.

Trump's cabinet is a murderer's row of murderers. On today's show Howie and David name names and tell you who to keep a watchful eye on.

They remind us how to apply the brakes during what can only be described as a slow motion car crash. Howie and David get specific, and remind us what all Americans can do to take back control of our national destiny.
